Hi folks,
How can I prevent the autologout mechanism from taking
effect when nobody is logged in?

To help make sure students don't hog terminals by
xlocking and then going out for lunch, we use the autologout
mechanism to offer a session-reset after 15 minutes of inactivity.
That's fine when someone is actually logged in on the terminal.

But the autologout mechanism continues to operate even
when nobody is logged in and just the xdm login greeting is showing.
This means that every 15 minutes the session gets reset, which means
the screen saver hardly has a chance to run, and we are starting
to see burn-in on the screen of the xdm greeting and the
autologout prompt window.

Why does autologout continue to operate even when nobody
is logged in? The description in the reference manual says that
it "...automatically logs the *user* out." (emphasis mine).
It doesn't say that it resets the session no matter what.

So far it seems I cannot do anything about this except
set the screensaver time really low to help counteract the fact
that it gets reset every 15 minutes.
