I recently upgraded my NCD terminal to 16 Mbytes of data memory, up
from 12, because I kept getting indications of low memory. These
messages went away after the upgrade until recently, when my terminal
starting terminating xwindow sessions a lot. I looked into it today, and
I think I've found the problem.
I can get a window which displays the data memory available for my
terminal from the statistics menu of the console window. After starting
about six xterminal sessions, netscape, two medm sessions, I still had
14.5 Mbytes of data memory to spare. Then at some point I clicked on the
farm status page. As usually happens, my terminal then went into slow
motion. I looked at the memory window, and my available data memory had
dropped from 14.5 Mbytes down to .3 Mbytes over a few minute period of
time.
I just repeated my observation, and again my terminal's data memory
drains away as long as I'm on that page. When I go to a different web
page, the memory drain stops but does not become available again. I have
to reboot the terminal to get it back, not a productive work habit....
A related anecdote: I recently went through a long troubleshooting
session with Jettie Watts, where I claimed a java applet I wrote wasn't
working and she claimed it *was* working. The upshot of this was that it
worked on her newer NCD terminal, but not on my older one. This may be a
clue to what's happening, or not.
Any ideas as to what I should do?
Thanks,
- Will
