Dear CLAS collaborator,
I am forwarding the following message from the Jlab radiation group
for your information. This is relevant to anyone who might have occasion
to remove any object from Hall B (notebooks, voltmeters, etc).

Subject: Hall B / FEL survey requirements
Mime-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"
This is just a reminder of the current status for survey requirements.
Hall B has an "exemption" on the normal requirements for releasing
material. If a person is removing an item from hall B, and the item is NOT
associated with beamline components, and you have reasonable assurance that
it was not located in the immediate vicinity of the beamline (within a
foot), then it does not require a Radcon release survey. Items such as
power supplies, CRT monitors and other computer equipment do not normally
need release surveys. However, if you are unsure about the status of an
item, and the owner of the item cannot reasonably assure that it was not
left on the beamline, then it should be held for a survey. (I've noticed
portable test equipment and hardware laying around on girders, so make sure
you ask the person exactly where the item resided)
Also, remember that the FEL now requires surveys for ALL items being
removed. We have found activation in many items in the vault that were not
located anywhere near the beam. Apparently there is a substantial thermal
neutron flux in there during operation which can affect things fairly far
from the beamline.
