Will and all,
Sandy Philpott forwarded to me your request regarding the
EGN files:
> At our weekly EGN meeting last Friday we discussed
>the status and future of our group's software effort.
>One of the key missing pieces is a central location
>to store software and data relevant to the calorimeter
>specifically. Right now we have this in our ESC1 disk,
>however, that disk cannot be viewed by the central
>systems, and you have expressed the wish for us to
>move those files to the central fileserver.
>
> I suggested a solution some weeks ago, which you
>seemed to accept at the time, namely, to create a
>new account named 'egn', with a disk quota equal to
>that of the esc1 disk. I believe the password could
>actually remain a secret to us; the use of this space
>could be controlled by the use of the existing group
>'clasesc' which was associated with the ESC1 disk...
Actually, there are several important file system issues
that we need to have a clearer understanding of, and this
is certainly one of them.
I have tentatively reserved B101 next Tuesday afternoon
at 1:30 pm, and I was hoping that all of you could join
us so that we can have a better understanding of your
requirements and assist in developing viable solutions.
We are planning immediately to order an additional 50
GB for the central fileserver, so I feel sure that the
technical solutions can be implemented.
The issues we would like to discuss are:
* How to meet your EGN disk requirements
* What type & size of "work" areas will Hall B require
and when? We can share with you how Halls A & C are
approaching this as well as what the RAID procurement
award (to be awarded momentarily) will look like.
* Migration of older Hall B systems to CUE - CLAS02, CLAS72.
Please let me know if we need to reschedule for another time,
if this one is not convenient.
Thanks,
Rita Chambers
