Hello All,

As has been noted before, by James, there are still several files (of ec1*
type) in the $CLAS_PARMS directory that are actually links to files in
/home/avakian. These links are owned by 'ficenec'.

Could you please put the actual files in $CLAS_PARMS, where they belong ?
This would help those people like me that mainain a copy of the tree
off-site.

There seems to be a more subtle problem with the new format of the
ec1geom.dat file. The routine geom_ec1_ini.F uses READ(unit,*) type
statements to read the file which contains lines like:

PBSTHI = 0.20 ! Thickness of lead
SCSTHI = 1.50 ! Thickness of scintillator
NPBL = 32 ! a number of Pb layers (# of PS l.=NPBL+1) (side)

This is a very readable input format, it's very nice.
It happens to work fine on sun,hp and aix, but it is non standard fortran,
and does not work on an silicon graphics system, and may not work on other
systems either.

Do we care as software group to keep our code as compattible as possible ?

I prefer the nice readability of the input file, and suggest that
non-compattible systems reformat the input file to be readable by their
"non-extended" fortrans. I have made such a file, which is not nicely
readable, but can be read on systems with non-extended fortrans. If you
run into a problem with gsim on your system:

GEOM_EC1_INI: **** error in EC1 geometry file

and gsim crashes on a 'dcut' or 'draw' or 'trig' then try replacing the
ec1geom.dat file with ~holtrop/ec1geom.ugly.dat
This works on the sgi.
