Charlottesville
April 15 & 16, 1998
2nd Circular
Dear Colleagues,
The response to the first circular has been very encouraging and several
topics have emerged as real issues for discussion in the workshop.
In this circular, we are appending a form to fill out if you are going to
attend the Workshop, providing travel and lodging information and a partial
list of speakers and topics. We also ask you to tell us if you plan to attend
the NMR Clinic on April 20th, even if you do not plan to attend the Workshop
itself. At this time we also ask for the title and brief description of any
contributions you may wish to present. Please bear in mind that the format of
the Workshop is such that, for each session there will be one presentation of
about one half hour to set the theme for the session. In some cases this will
be followed by a shorter talk (10 - 15 minutes) providing further information
or examples in the context of the theme. Other contributions will be
incorporated into the discussion. In any case all contributions will be
included in the Proceedings of the Workshop.
As an example of this format see the Cosener's House Proceedings
(Rutherford Lab. Report RL-80-080).
Workshop
The Workshop will be held at Zehmer Hall, 104 Midmont Lane, Charlottesville,
on the grounds of the University of Virginia on April 15 & 16, 1998. There will
be no workshop fee, but attendees will be asked to pay for parking (if
necessary) at $1.50 per day and for lunch at Zehmer Hall. Morning coffee and
refreshments at breaks will be provided.
A Website has been set up at
www.physics.virginia.edu/research/groups/dcrabb/.
Here appear the circulars and links to information about Charlottesville and
the University. Further information such as the program for the workshop will
be posted there.
Travel
Charlottesville Airport is about a twenty minute drive from the University
and is served by Delta, United and US Airways from a number of hubs, including
Charlotte, Cincinnatti, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Washington Dulles. Other
possibilities are to fly into Washington Dulles or National airport, rent a car
and drive (110 miles). Richmond Airport is equidistant between Charlottesville
(70 miles) and Newport News (for TJNAF) and thus may be more convenient for
some.
For those flying into Charlottesville and not wishing to rent a car, we
can provide transportation from the airport to the hotel. Just inform us of
your arrival time and flight number.
Lodging
A block of 25 rooms has been reserved at the Red Roof Inn, 1309 Main St.
West, Charlottesville, Phone 804-295-4333 and will be held until 31st March.
Rooms are $49.99 plus applicable taxes. Please make your reservations dirctly
with the hotel or through their 80-number, 800-843-7663. When making
reservations, please mention that you are attending 'NMR Workshop' to get ths
special rate.
The Red Roof Inn is situated on the Corner, near the University Grounds
and with many restaurants and small stores nearby. The hotel serves coffee in
the morning and, by the time of the Workshop, a restaurant will have opened in
the hotel . The hotel is a pleasant 20 - 25 minute walk through the grounds of
the University from Zehmer Hall. The weather during April is usually mild, but
come prepared for rainshowers. Transportation will also be available between
the hotel and Zehmer Hall in the morning and evening.
If you are going to attend the NMR-Clinic at TJNAF please let us know if
you want us to arrange accomodation in Newport News.
