Here are some thoughts on background studies during the commissioning period:

*Trigger Rates as a Function of TOF thresholds
----------------------------------------------

TOF width (set using dimangui): 100ns, or standard setting if already optimized
coda configuration: g1_APR98
trigger Tigris: g1_ALLTOF_ASYNC.trg
Photon trigger: MOR.ST in coincidence

a) Low current (1 nA, radiator A)
Take data at several TOF thresholds (dimangui): 100 mV, 200mV, 300mV, 400 mV
(ADC = 1.8 counts/mV).
0.5 M triggers per setting

b) High current (10 nA, radiator A)
Take data at several TOF thresholds (dimangui): 100 mV, 200mV, 300mV, 400 mV
(ADC = 1.8 counts/mV).
0.5 M triggers per setting
Prescale by factor of 3-4 if necessary

*TOF Analysis
-------------

Analyze trigger data in TOF looking at a) energy loss in the counters b) position

*Ratio of Neutron to Photon Triggers
------------------------------------

Special Beam: Accelerator Tune Pulsed beam,
synchronized to 60 Hz line, about 10 nA average current
0.6 muA peak for 354 musec, off 100 musec, on 4 musec (1.6% duty cycle)
Note: Standard Accelerator Tune Pulsed beam is run with approximately 8 muA peak

Procedure:

1. Insert Blank Radiator
2. Request Standard Accelerator Tune Pulsed Beam.
3. Request Lower beam current by a factor of 12.
4. Insert Radiator A
5. Take data (see below)
6. Tune CW beam (10 nA)
7. Take data (see below)

TOF width (set using dimangui): 100ns, or standard setting if already optimized
coda configuration: g1_APR98
trigger Tigris: g1_ALLTOF.trg
Photon trigger: Not used
Radiator: A (10**-4). Use this radiator because it is more robust. Save B.

Take data with CW beam and pulsed beam using TOF trigger, same average beam current.

Compare 60 Hz monitor information under the two beam conditions.

* Backgrounds as a Function of Tagger Magnet Excitation
-------------------------------------------------------

High current (10 nA, radiator A)
TOF thresholds (dimangui): 100 mV, or optimum as determined by 1) above
Prescale by factor of 3-4 if necessary
Take data at various Tagger Magnet Currents Settings (relative to nominal):
-0.6%,-0.4%,-0.2%, 0%, 0.2%, 0.4%,0.6%
Take approx 0.5 M triggers per setting.
