Dear Members of the CLAS Drift Chamber Group;

Welcome to the email list. I'll start off with a brief status report
of the whole project, but I'd like to emphasize that this forum is
intended to be a participatory one, much like a public meeting.
In fact it was initiated at the request of Steve Dytman whom I
expect will soon post a number of general questions to the group at
large. I'd also like to acknowledge Mark Ito's contribution - this
is a copy of his Slow Controls email list.

CONSTRUCTION:

- R1 construction and instrumentation:
Stringing of sectors 5 and 6 is complete. On-board instrumentation of
these two sectors is underway. Three sectors have been delivered to CEBAF,
with another expected tonight.

- R2 construction, instrumentation and installation:
Chambers have been installed in the 3, 1, 11 and 9 and 5 o'clock postions.
The sixth chamber will be delivered to CEBAF next Monday and on Tuesday
we will have a ceremony with Hermann, the president of ODU, etc. to
celebrate this milestone.

- R3 construction and instrumentation:
R3 installation fixtures on the post ends have been installed and are
scheduled to be surveyed tonight. The sixth Region 3 chamber is still
being conditioned and instrumented.

- Drift chamber cabling:
Cabling remains on the critical path both for the December run and
for February. The cables have long since been made and tested but cable
routing on the cryostat and on the space frame has been delayed by a
number of factors: waiting for holes to be cut in the space frame, waiting
for large-scale welding to be complete because of fear of damage to cables,
lack of manpower and lack of availability of man-lifts. We are presently
organizing our manpower in order to tackle the remaining work.

- Gas system:
The gas panel has been installed on Deck 2 of the space frame. Input
and exhaust manifolds for the three regions have been installed on
Deck 1. Flow has been achieved to a dummy volume located on Deck 2
of the space frame. Plans are being made to deliver Argon-CO2 for
the December run in case all the flammable gas detectors are not
yet commissioned.

- ADB boards:
First article boards have been accepted and manufacturing of the boards
is underway. Final boards are being received (68/400 so far) and are
being tested. Some problems are being seen in about 1% of channels.

- Pulse calibration system:
The trigger calibration interface (TCI) board has been received. The
system is being used in the EEL building for acceptance testing of
the ADB's.

Tracking within a RECSIS framework:
The tracking part of the SDA program has been separated from the simulation
and initialization parts and has been placed within a RECSIS framework.
Event analysis code is being implemented which calculates the event start time
in the drift chamber TDC time base using TDC information from the time of
flight counters. Tracks which have a simulated trigger time (using GSIM)
have been reconstructed using SDA.
